Zhiguang Energy Storage has successfully secured the bid for the multi-form hybrid energy storage project at the State Grid Hainan Prefecture National Photovoltaic-Storage Demonstration Base (the “Photovoltaic-Storage Demonstration Project”), marking a major milestone in the company’s advancements in hybrid energy storage technology and system integration.

The winning bid includes 10 energy storage subsystems, encompassing networked distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) technology exploration area storage, semi-solid lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO?) batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, lithium titanate batteries, flywheel storage, supercapacitor storage, and hybrid capacitor storage.

The largest subsystem in the project is the networked distributed D-STATCOM technology exploration area storage system. It offers high integration, simple system architecture, short construction cycle, and excellent regulation performance. This system not only provides dynamic reactive power reserve but also delivers full-process voltage support—including sub-transient, transient, and steady-state—for renewable energy power plants. Deploying distributed D-STATCOM is a strategic step in enabling large-scale, safe, and orderly renewable energy development, while also paving the way for a renewable-dominated new power system.

The project is located in the photovoltaic park of the 10-million-kilowatt-level new energy base (Area 1, Two Parks) in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province, at an altitude of approximately 2,950–3,100 meters. It is a key initiative for Qinghai Province to promote energy storage technology applications. The project will conduct demonstration studies on 12 energy storage technologies, including flywheel storage, double-layer capacitors, hybrid supercapacitors, lithium iron phosphate (AC-coupled) batteries, and sodium-ion batteries, to evaluate their performance under real-world conditions and explore system coordination capabilities.

The implementation of this project will drive diversified development of China’s energy storage technology pathways and standards, while providing critical data and engineering experience for large-scale “photovoltaics + storage” deployment in high-altitude regions. It holds significant implications for building a new type of power system and advancing a green energy transition.
